Designing your kitchen - the inside story
Written by Tyra Raymond

Our last article went over a few tricks to figure out your style preference when designing your new kitchen.

For this article we turn to the inside amenities.  There is no end to the magic we can create with just kitchen cabinets.  Each function in the kitchen; preparation, cooking, and cleaning, are all considered work centers and when we design, every effort should be given to keep all items in the area where they will be used.

For instance, you should have a trash roll-out cabinet/recycle center close to the sink.  All pots and pans should be near the range or cook top.  Many of your items for food storage should be near the refrigerator.   If you go through your kitchen now you will see what I mean.  Why would you place your spices across the room from your stove in the panty?

There are gadgets to maximize storage in every cabinet and drawer.  Just a few that come to mind are roll out shelves, cutlery drawer inserts, serving tray organizers, spice racks, veggie bins, cutting boards and pantry inserts.

Once your remodel is finished it is always great when the customer actually loves the way their kitchen looks and how it functions!

A well thought out design can save you time and energy and that is why every kitchen project absolutely needs to start with a trip to a professional designer.  You can find a designer who is trained and or certified by going to www.nkba.org  and typing in your zip code.

Don’t let the state of the economy stop you from realizing your dream kitchen! Please call me for information on affordable solutions and innovative designs.
